Academics
Welcome to CGS, where the world is our classroom.
At the Center for Global Studies (CGS), we believe that education should transcend borders. Our academic program is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of the languages, cultures, histories, and literatures of China, Japan, and the Middle East, fostering a global perspective that prepares them for an interconnected world.
At the heart of CGS is inquiry-based learning—students develop the skills to ask meaningful questions, engage in critical research, and articulate their ideas through thoughtful writing. All 9th-grade students begin in honors-level courses, and as they progress to 11th and 12th grade, they have the opportunity to challenge themselves with Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and dual-enrollment courses at Norwalk Community College.
A distinctive feature of CGS is our four-year world language program. Every student studies Arabic, Chinese, or Japanese, gaining linguistic proficiency and cultural competence. Our students have achieved national recognition, excelling in competitions such as the Japan Bowl, earning Seals of Biliteracy, and receiving U.S. State Department Critical Language Scholarships.
Beyond the classroom, students can immerse themselves in language and culture through study tours abroad, further enhancing their global awareness and appreciation. Through these experiences, CGS students graduate as informed, active, and compassionate global citizens, ready to navigate and contribute to the world around them.
